Low Cost Solar Panels
You may already know that solar panels can be expensive. However, Colorado State University has devised a way to manufacture low cost solar panels that offer high performance for the price. This is more than just a school project -- as a matter of fact AVA Solar will soon begin mass producing these affordable panels using technology designed by Professor W.S. Sampath. The factory being built for this purpose will employ as many as 500 workers. The 200 megawatts produced here will be able to power 400,000 homes.
These panels can be produced for less than one dollar per watt, which is substantially cheaper than traditional solar power. This will mean that homes and companies everywhere can use solar power for the same price as electric power. The automated manufacturing process used to make these panels uses a glass coating that uses a thin cadmium telluride film as opposed to the traditional crystalline silicon. This method of making solar panels creates panels of high efficiency that are fast and easy to make. Consumers can take advantage of these panels for only $2 per watt which is half the current price.
Because this type of solar energy does not need to be put on the grid it can be used anywhere. If you're worried about the environment, you'll be pleased to know that the manufacturing process for these solar panels and modules creates a lot less construction waste than traditional manufacturing does. There are less materials required to build these panels which helps conserve not only energy and money but other valuable resources also. Most of the materials left over from the manufacturing process can be recycled and reused.
Low cost solar panels are a trend that will continue to catch on around the globe. These panels give everyone the opportunity to use solar energy. Even if you go with traditional solar modules and panels, you can rest assured that within several years the system will pay for itself. Purchase and installation of traditional solar panels can be expensive, but when you compare that to years of electricity usage you will see the savings that await you. Solar power is good for your wallet and good for the environment, which is why so many people are choosing this form of energy.
