Are Wind Turbines Affordable?
If you want to keep the electricity flowing into your home, you have to do the same thing as all of your neighbors do each month - write a check to the local utility company. Since you generally pay based on your electricity usage, this is one of those expenses which you have some control over.
Depending on the number of appliances and other electronics that you have in your house, your electric bills can easily exceed past your regular budgets putting a dent on your future plans and investments for other endeavors. It is always important to keep your bills to a minimum because electricity isn't the only bill that you need to pay. You got the phone bills and other utilities that needs to be paid as well.
Conserving energy is always desirable. It saves you money and it's better for the environment. Unfortunately, you can only conserve so much energy; there are some appliances which you really can't do without and if the other people in your home aren't as green-minded as yourself, you could be fighting a losing battle.
The answer to this problem is to use additional energy alternatives so you can reduce the usage of the electricity that you really pay for. If you think about the other types of energy, both solar and wind power should come into your mind. However, if your area doesn't have any wind or solar power plants you're pretty much hopeless right?
You can use alternative energy sources to power your home all by yourself; you don't need a utility company or your own power plant. There are smaller-scale technologies which allow you to supply your home with energy through wind power or solar energy. The only question is which of these alternative energies is best for your needs; and which fits best into your budget?
Solar energy is clean and renewable and can provide a reliable source of power for your home. However, getting a solar energy system in place can be very expensive. Solar panels are pricy and if you want to power your home with solar power, you'll need quite a few panels for this.
Wind power is different because it depends on wind turbines to generate the electricity. Unlike solar panels, wind turbines are made up of materials that you can find in the junkyard or online recycle shops making it easier to construct. The materials are also cheaper since it involves rotors, support, and a single electrical generator.
Since the steps in making a wind turbine is fairly simple, you can make numerous wind turbines to provide more amounts of electricity to power your devices while reducing the dependence of your main supply of electricity. Plus you get added benefits of them working 24 hours a day as long as there is wind.
Especially if you live in a rural area, you can generate a lot of power using your wind turbines. Placing your turbines as high off the ground as possible will give you the best results; on your rooftop is usually the best place. Even those who live in large cities can take advantage of the benefits of wind power to lower their electricity bills - all it takes is a roof and a little DIY know-how.

What Is Wind Power
We all know how important it is to preserve our environment and conserve natural resources. This has led to an unprecedented level of interest in using wind power and other types of alternative energy. However, a lot of people really aren't sure how wind power actually works. In fact, it's actually rather simple. The kinetic energy of the wind is converted into electrical energy through the motion of wind turbines.
Even though wind power is a great source of unlimited clean energy, it is used to produce a mere 1.5% of the world's electricity. With every year, though, it is becoming more widely used.
The more people know about the danger posed by continuing to produce electricity by conventional means and the benefits of wind power, the more people are interested in making the transition. There are some countries which have made great advances in the use of this alternative energy technology; Denmark already uses wind power to meet 20% of its electrical energy needs.
Portugal and Spain have able eleven percent wind power usage. And it is seven percent in the Republic of Ireland and Germany. Even though it would seem like a natural transition being wind power has historically been used for pumping water, grinding grain and propelling sailing ships, it has only been until the recent years that it was being used for the production of energy that can be used as electricity.
It is true that some people say that wind farms are less than attractive - but given all of the benefits they have to offer, it's easy to come to terms with the aesthetics of wind power. Wind power does not produce pollution and provides clean and renewable energy.
There is even more that wind power may be able to do besides powering our homes and businesses. A car has been built which uses wind power and can reach speeds of more than 100 mph! While these cars won't be on the consumer market for at least a few years yet, this is a very exciting application for wind power.
The car uses a battery (which is solar powered) to start, but once started it can run on the energy generated by the circulation of air through the car. It seems that wind power has even more uses than anyone thought. With the potential to power not only our homes but also our cars, it seems that there are no good arguments to be made against the use of wind power.
Of course, some who live near a wind farm do have some complaints about the noise, but other neighbors of wind farms shrug it off, saying that these wind power plants produce less noise than a herd of sheep or cows would.
It is all in the eyes, or ears, of the beholder apparently. But in the end, decisions will be made based on what is best for the environment of the planet, not what the local residents want to have views of.
