An Introduction To The Different Types Of Renewable Energy
Coming from a number of different natural resources, renewable energy is the only possibility we have for supplying ourselves with power in the future. Not only is renewable energy cleaner and burning fossil fuels, but they will never run out. With the right technology, we can happily relying on the power of wind, sunlight, water and geothermal energy to supply us with power for the rest of our existence.
These days, by far the most common form of energy, which people around the world used to supply heat and light, is simply the burning of wood. However, hydroelectricity is one of the biggest suppliers in the world of electricity accounting for almost 20 per cent of the world's electricity.
Wind power is one form of energy becoming increasingly popular, especially in Europe. This has however, become a controversial form of energy supply. This is because the turbines used to generate the power do not produce enough power unless there are going to be a very large number of them. These "wind farms" take an enormous amount of space and can severely degraded local environment due to sight and sound pollution amongst other things.
Generated by the force of water, hydroelectricity is perhaps the most practical and effective form of renewable energy supply. Hydroelectricity is mostly supplied by the force of water spilling over huge dams and although these are very costly to build, they produce an enormous amount of power. Other forms of hydroelectricity simply rely on the forced the tides, waves and water mills.
Another practical form of renewable energy comes from the sun. Solar panels take in sunlight and convert the slight into electricity. This is growing increasingly in popularity for its domestic uses due to the fact that certain governments are paying those who use solar power for the excess power that there panels generate that they cannot use at home. This works out wonderfully, not only is it very good for the environment but it is also good for people's cash flow.
These days, there are an increasing number of cars on the market which have what is called a dual fuel system. These cars have the ability to use a renewable energy source called biofuel. Biofuel comes from organic matter that as recently died, as opposed to the traditional fossil fuels which come from organic material that has been dead a very long time.
Geothermal heat is the Earth's natural supply of heat which can provide us with an endless supply of power. Unfortunately the plants needed to process geothermal heat a very costly to build, but on the bright side they generate a great deal of electricity.
Thankfully, renewable energy is becoming more popular and a number of organisations are starting to capitalize on its massive potential. Many people are starting to realise the importance of using renewable energy resources. One of the fastest growing industries in renewable energy is that of solar power which is growing at an astounding rate of 30% per year at the moment.
Technology is constantly advancing, affording us with a number of new options and I think it is safe to say that in the near future we will see some tremendous advancement with regards to renewable energy. It is the only future for the planet and there is simply no other option in the longer term.
