Green Energy – Alternatives To Fossil Fuels

We live in a world where the need for energy is continually growing. But how will we be able to meet the ever-growing demands, if we primarily depend on non-renewable resources? Today, fossil fuels supply more than 85% of the world's energy. Sooner or later we will have to look for alternatives. It's always better sooner than later.

Why alternatives? Two reasons - energy supply and environmental concerns. We all know fossil fuels will eventually run out. By some estimates, they may be depleted within the next 50 years or so. Fossil fuels were formed from organic materials (dead plants and animals) over hundreds of millions of years and cannot be renewed. When they run out, they are gone for good.

Another growing concern is environmental pollution. Today, the combustion of fossil fuels is one of the biggest source of atmospheric pollution. Burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and many other poisonous chemicals that go into the air, water, and ground. This causes both health and environmental issues such as smog, acid rain, climate change, ozone depletion, and so on.

Fossil fuels definitely don't have a bright future. We know that the future belongs to renewable energy sources that do not pollute the environment. Not to mention they come in unlimited supplies. Solar, wind, and hydro are the main forms of renewable energy today.

Our overly dependence on non-renewable energy sources is, as we know, not sustainable. We should put in serious efforts to reduce it. There are renewable eco-friendly alternatives all around us.

The main drawback of renewable energy is the cost. It's true, low fossil fuel prices made it difficult for alternative sources to compete. But this is changing. Technologies are improving and the cost of green energy has fallen dramatically over the last few years.

There is no doubt, renewable energy sources are the future and it is up to us to smooth the transition from fossil fuels. The sooner we start, the better.

You can start using renewable energy today and greatly reduce or even eliminate your power bill. Generating electricity at home is easier and cheaper than you think. See earth4energy guide for more details.
