Solar Lights: Why TheFlying Purchases This Now?

by Phineas Duru

Lot's of people these days are using solar lights rather than regular lights to illuminate their homes. Not just on the interior of their homes but on the outside as well. These small pieces of equipment are starting to pop up everywhere and they are no longer bulky or ugly looking. This is good considering the flock of buyers these days.

How do they function? They are lights that are powered by solar cells; most of them will use a low energy lighting element, like an LED or a compact fluorescent, to let the light run from the battery for as long as possible. What sizes have you seen lately? They're maybe the size of a coffee cup for the entire unit, including the photovoltaic collector on the top. They've also come down in price as making them more affordable than ever before.

Do you know that most solar lights are all weather ready, they have the lighting element itself (the bulb, etc) which is in a weather tight container, such as clear plastic or a glass dome. Somewhere on it will be a photovoltaic collector that should be put up in the direction of the sun. A closer inspection of the unit reveals the casing of a converter and battery assembly; depending on how much sunlight these get, they can run for 5 or more hours after a full day's charge, and more expensive models can run for more than that.

Why are they flying off the shelves? The appeal of these lights comes from many directions. They don't use power from the grid, so they cut down on your electric bill, and they're usually self-maintained and contained, so you can change their location freely without digging up power lines in your yard. In places where the local electric grid can overload (blackouts), they allow you to light your home in the evening while leaving more power available for air conditioning.

For Many that like to keep their yards and gardens attractive, the other appeal of solar lights is that they've gotten more beautiful and attractive. Interestingly, past are the days when solar lights proclaimed you to be the biggest environerd on your block. These days, the buyers see financial value and beauty. They are now much smaller, compact, and much more attractive, and can grace most home or garden decors, and can work well on porches and decks.

For many of us with some measure of artistic ability, this can make for some interesting creative combinations of outdoor displays decorations with beautiful lights. Well, of course if you are strictly using them to light up your pathways and for security flood light illuminations, thats great as well. Yes! you c use them as security devices and hook them up to a motion sensor. This will light up an area where any motion is detected. Nice way to keep burglars away.

Understandably, due to the collapse of the housing market, a lot of home owners are trying home improvement on smaller budgets. Do you know that Solar lights are a great way to do this? They're affordable, and they provide a solid improvement on the home, while making the garden pleasanter in the evening. Their lack of long term costs since they do not draw from the electricity grid gives them a good return on the money spent to buy them. They may not actively reduce your electric bill, but they won't increase it.

The bottom line- solar lights are a great way to save lots of money. They are small, cheap, and efficient. They also do not take up a lot of space and are easily put up and maintained. Plus, they look pretty nice with the proper complimentary backgrounds.
