Wind turbines and the effects on your home

by John Ashbury

There are many things to consider if you want to install a wind turbine system in your home. There are many questions that people ask about these types of systems. Anyone can install this type of system but there are things to think about prior to beginning the project.

Although anyone can install a wind turbine system in their home it is important to remember that there are federal regulations that have been set which require the electricity company that you are dealing with to connect the system. Before you go ahead and install the wind powered system in your home you need to contact your electricity company. They have to cooperate with you and connect the system. It is highly advisable that you contact the manufacturer of the system that you have chose and they will, in turn, work with the utility company to get the necessary approvals and also ensure that the system is up to code.

Many prospective prospective owners are concerned about the wiring in their homes and fear that in order to install the system they will need to interfere with their existing wiring. But this is not the case. Wind turbine systems do not affect the wiring in your home in the least and are simply fitted to your home.

When you have decided to go ahead and have a wind powered system installed in your home the electricity company will then install an additional meter next to your regular electricity meter. This new one will measure the amount of energy that the electricity company is buying from your turbine.

In order for you to install a wind turbine for your home you will require a tower. It will need to be between eighty and one-hundred-and-twenty feet tall and is usually supplied along with the wind turbine when you purchase it. The reason that you need a tower in the first place is because wind does not tend to blow very strongly close to the ground. By installing the system on the tower it is able to store more energy from the stronger wind that blows higher up.

You will be able to choose between many different types of towers when you decide to have a wind turbine installed for the purpose of supplementing your energy needs in your home. Some are made from guyed lattice and other are hinged towers. All the different types have their own advantages. The lattice one is popular because it is highly economical and good value for money. The hinged is popular because it is easy to install and also is easily accessed for maintenance purposes.

To recap, wind powered systems will not require you to alter the wiring in your home at all. They are simply fitted to your house without affecting any of the wiring whatsoever.

Remember that the taller the tower for your system the better. Do not fear that your electricity company will refuse to let you install a turbine system because they cannot. Work with your utility company to ensure that the installation is done properly and you will pleased that you made the decision to purchase a wind turbine for your home.
