How to Construct Your Own Solar Panels
Instructions that are readily available for constructing solar panels often lead one to believe it is much more difficult than it really is.
In fact, the process is not as difficult as you think to make your own solar panels. It becomes difficult only there where one starts making it without a clear knowledge of what is needed and how they are to be used to make solar panels.
I will give you a brief overview and show you how simple the process is:
1. Initially, determine if you really need to construct your own solar panel. It may be that you can obtain one that someone is discarding without having to pay anything. You should be aware that you may not have to do this to start with.
2. Given you decide to continue with the project, here is what you will have to do.
It might be tempting to do away with monthly electric expenses altogether by constructing your own solar panels, but I suggest you postpone that goal with this first undertaking.
Start small, and take small steps until you move up to larger projects. Start with a 50-cell panel first (relatively small) and see how that goes - and whether or not you really want to build more solar panels by yourself.
Lets get started with your first solar panel project:
First, you'll need the necessary parts: solar cells found on eBay, several pieces of plywood, tabbing wire, solder, and a rosin flux pen.
Next, place the cells in a series, face them down and then drop a small amount of solder on each of these tabs one by one.
Then, attach wire to the front of one cell from the back of another until all these cells are joined with wire. Take care with this part; it may be awkward at first, but it is not difficult.
The next step is to join the separate rows together in a parallel fashion, and then attach the cells to the wood with silicone.
Finally, drill holes at the bottom of your plywood so that the positive and negative wires can go from your solar cells to the inverter and then to your utility box.
This last step is rather important and sometimes can be a little daunting. You might want to solicit the help of an expert for this one the first time. An electrician or the electric company can provide assistance.
This is a very quick overview, but you get the basic idea from this article. Making your own solar panels is not difficult; the most tedious part of this whole process is wiring the solar cells together, and youll get better at it each time you do it.
