Solar Power Electricity The Pros and Cons
Solar power electricity as an alternative to fossil fuels and nuclear power makes perfect sense given oil shortages and environmental concerns. Solar power electricity is one of four renewable and clean resources for alternative energy.
Alternative solar power advantages include: Unlimited Renewal Solar power electricity is produced from the sun. The suns rays provide the energy we need making alternative solar power endlessly renewable. As long as the sun is shining, we can use this valuable resource to produce electricity. For now, storage of alternative solar power is the biggest obstacle we have to overcome. We are able to store only enough to power some outside lights. Researchers are working hard to find ways of storing solar energy. As it is, alternative solar power is available during hours of full sun and is tremendously useful as a supplement to other forms of energy.
As far as renewable alternative energies go, hydrogen is up and coming. We have been using water as a means of producing electricity for a long time, but it hasn't been done on a widespread scale due to the enormous cost of production. Geothermal energy, which has been around for hundreds of years, is becoming more and more popular. Wind energy is another alternative.
There are "windmill farms" in various places and some individual families have taken it upon themselves to run their own windmill for making electricity. Again, cost is a factor and wind energy depends on wind. Another factor tied up in wind energy are the changes in landscape. People have complained that they are eye sores. Solar panels and towers may not be much better received, but people really need to consider whether saving our planet is worth more than a great view of the mountains and sky.
Solar power electricity has the chance of becoming a major source of our earth's energy. The advantages of solar power are that it does not run out and it is pure. There are absolutely no pollutants made in the production of solar energy. Countries all over the world have begun to incorporate solar power electricity. Germany leads the way in promoting the use of solar panels to gather the sun's energy and produce electricity. In India, they are working on a solar energy plant that is claimed to be the biggest in the world. In the U.S., alternative solar power is being researched to find ways of storing solar energy and scientists are looking for methods of building solar panels without the high cost. Homeowners are being offered tax breaks for the installation of solar panels on the homes to offset the tremendous cost of the installation.
While alternative solar power is not yet available to everyone due to the high cost of solar panels, researchers are busily looking for ways of reducing the cost. Across the world, countries are getting behind the idea of alternative solar power. Some governments are developing programs to encourage the use of solar power electricity. The United States provides for tax breaks and rebates when citizens use alternative sources of energy and alternative solar power is one of the qualifying elements. Those who can afford to power their homes with solar energy are seeing large reductions in their energy bills and payments from the government for their contribution to clean air. It may take a few years to make up the cost, but many see it as a means of doing their part to aid in the reduction of carbons.
Solar panels are not difficult to install and use. The advantages of alternative solar power are greater than the disadvantages and should be considered by anyone with the resources to apply it.
